Chateau Unang Rouge AOC Ventoux 2013

red label 2013

rouge back label 2013

GrapeVarieties : Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault (with yields of 30-40hl/hectare, hand- picked). Organic.

Tasting Notes : This wine has a vibrant, violet-tinged hue. Its nose takes in ripe cherry, strawberry and pepper notes. In the mouth the cherry continues but edges towards balsamic and liquorice, with a firm acidity and minerality keeping it fresh. The soft finish is blacker fruit with a little cocoa.

Terroir : The highest vineyards on the domaine, at just over 300 metres,  are reserved for the red wines. A sandy soil adds to the softness of our wines and the limestone underneath contributes to the mineral expression. Their south-easterly aspect, fanned by the Mistral wind, leads to ripe, clean fruit.

Wine-making : The grenache was initially fermented at low temperatures to ensure the maximum of fruit was harnessed. The syrah has a slightly longer fermentation and extraction (up to three weeks), to give more structure to support the fruit. Carbonic maceration was used to ferment a small part of the syrah.

Notes : Serve at room temperature or slightly cooler. Ready to drink from 2015 and will easily last 5 years. Has great balance and will work with meatier dishes, but we like its crispness with sausages and mash.
