Wine, Honey and Saffron….

The annual Christmas Malemort market took place outside the Mairie this year, as someone had fallen out with the barmaid near the normal site!

It is a wonderful collection of stands, manned by the characters from the village, full of rich local bounty.  This is an experience to relish each year.  This year’s treasures were honey, saffron, olive oil, lavender oil,  almond biscuits, quince chutney all produced within 2 kms of home.

The charming saffron producers were new to me, and are also rearing donkeys for milk based products – Cleopatra baths sometime soon!

Dario the honey man with his gentle wife, and beloved dog, was full of chat including tales of visits to Unang as a child.

Jacqueline, from Blauvac, always smiling, mouthwatering jams and often a welcome neighbour at Venasque summer evening market.
