La Source 2009 AOC Ventoux Red

Grape Varieties : Syrah, Grenache, Carignan (with yields of 3o-35h hectare,
hand-picked).

Tasting Notes : Intense aromas of blackcurrant, peppers and the garrigue are
evident with this deep ruby coloured wine. The round tannins are in step with this
elegant wine, which also boasts a mineral – graphite – side, and gentle spicy finish.

Terroir : The highest vineyards on the domaine, at just over 3oo metres, are
reserved for the red wines. The clay-limestone soil at this height gives the wines a
more complex expression. Their southerly aspect, fanned by the Mistral wind, leads
to ripe, clean fruit. The syrah benefits from an outstanding hill-top exposure where
the soil has a higher clay content – and is sometimes barely 2ocm deep.

Wine-making : The grenache was initially fermented at cooler temperatures to
harness the fruit. Carbonic maceration was used  for the carignan fermentation.
The syrah has a slightly longer fermentation and extraction (up to three weeks), to
give more structure to support the fruit. This was followed by barrel ageing.

Notes : Serve at room temperature. Ready to drink from 2011 and will improve for
5+ years. Works extremely well with roast duck served with beetroot.
