Chateau Unang Cuvée Adeline 2009, Ventoux (16.5 points)

Very pale gold. Creamy peach and almond aroma, plenty of ripe pear and a hint of something floral. Inviting. Similar pear and almond flavours on the palate. Roussanne is dominant and the slight use of oak has given texture rather than flavour but there’s a complexity from the blend – a touch earthy and floral as it opens up. Definite southern Rhône character and finishes fresh.

Chateau Unang La Source 2009, Ventoux (16 points)

Mid crimson. Peppery, spicy dark fruit, on the savoury side but there’s a sweetness of red fruit coming through from the Grenache. Same Grenache sweetness evident on the palate with a touch of oak. Rounded, fresh and finishes with that peppery, lightly baked Syrah note. Tannins are smooth and nicely balanced with the fruit.
