Chateau Unang Cuvee Adeline 2014 Blanc AOC Ventoux

adeline label 2014adeline back label 2013    GrapeVarieties: Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc (with yields below 20hl/hectare, hand-picked). Organic.

Tasting Notes : A pale, golden-coloured youthful wine, which has a mineral and white fruit (pear) opening with floral (lilac) notes.  A light touch of vanilla combines with a gentle saltiness to complement the sweetness of the fruit. Another great year for the whites being both fresh and elegant on the finish.

Terroir : The white varieties at Unang are positioned at the valley floor, by the River Nesque, at an attitude of 220 metres. This clay-limestone soil is sited in the shadow of the Plateau de Vaucluse and so is sheltered from the sun for part of the day. This reduced exposure to the sun gives these vineyards cooler temperatures and slower maturation, lending themselves to lively and expressive wines.

Wine-making : Late-harvested, the grapes were left in contact with their skins before pressing to take on more character. The wines started off their fermentation at low temperatures in stainless-steel vats before about one-fifth of the Roussanne was moved into new French oak barrels, where it remained for 5 months.

Notes : Serve chilled,  this wine could accompany a range of dishes, from roast veal to lobster – working well with rich sauces too. Ready to drink from 2015, and good for 5 years,  perhaps more.
